Madigan made... brooch art! (or is it broach art?)
Whatever you want to call it, I like to make personal "art" for my home. (Note the use of quotation marks? These are far from masterpieces... but they get the job done to make things pretty and coordinated.)
I have never been a big fan of store-bought framed art. They tend to feel a bit generic.
I have found a few unique pictures at flea markets, but I tend to just create my own thing for the specific space in mind. I framed personal items, pretty paper and greeting cards. Once in a while (when I am in a very brave mood) I will pick up the paint brush. Whatever the project is, I enjoy the fact that it is personal and you cannot find that exact decor in someone else's home.
So, I was excited to read on the CSI Project that this week's project is all about frames, art and wall decor.
I wanted to share one of my favorite wall decor projects.
I wanted to share one of my favorite wall decor projects.
For my wedding to Mr. Madigan, I wore several different brooches. I pinned the two tiny little guys in my hair. I secured my wrap for the ceremony with the larger round one. And my florist nestled that fabulous triangular shaped brooch into my rose bouquet (It looked pretty freaking awesome!).
My mom found three of the brooches at flea markets, and I bought one of them new at a department store. (Question: can you tell which one is which is the 'new' one? Go to the end of the post to find out.)
I loved these sparkly guys (and the memories associated with them). After the wedding, I knew I wanted to display them in a special way. So, I grabbed some shadowbox frames, batting and a pretty scrap of blue fabric (our bedroom is decorated in tan, cream and blue).
I layered the batting and fabric over the back of the shadowbox. Using my trusty duct tape, I secured the fabric down tautly in the back.
I keep my favorite picture from our 'first dance' on that dresser. If you look carefully at the picture, you can see one of the brooches in my hair.
Simple. Personal. Pretty. That's how I like my wall decor.
(Answer to above: the larger round brooch on the left is 'new'. The other three are older/vintage.)
