Madigan made... witch "textbooks."
Before I tell you about this book project, I need to review something.
I don't think I mentioned my 'china cabinet posing as a library cabinet' yet. It sits here in our den/library.
(Translation? Our room with our desk. Ya know, where the bloggy magic happens.)
I struggle BIG time with how to decorate that thing.
Do I fill it with books? Can I still display china/pottery?
Hence the 'china cabinet posing as a library cabinet' name.
I did try to incorporate some books in the cabinet. Most of the books are ones we own or some 'filler' books I picked out of the 25 cents bin at Goodwill.
I find bookshelves tricky to decorate. They can look really cluttered, really fast. (in my humble opinion)
I do not have fancy matching books, so a trick I saw in magazines was to turn the books around.... You see the pages, but the spines face away. The collection looks a little more cohesive that way.

| (disclaimer: I realize that little red book is not turned around. It is actually a photo album, but I liked the color with the other books.) |
But, wait:
What does ALL this cabinet talk
have to do with witch textbooks??
have to do with witch textbooks??
Well, I stole two books from that cabinet for this little project.
The beauty of it all?
I can just turn the books around after Halloween and put them back in the cabinet.

No one will know that there are seasonal decorations on the shelf. (Unless you tell them. shh!)
So, I took two black books and painted the spines with black craft paint.
I did not have any white vinyl, but I had white paint. So I cut out some words with my other vinyl and used it like a stencil.
The books sit under our TV with a small broom and some apples. I planned to use pumpkins, but I saw the wooden apples in my kitchen. Apples just felt a little more 'witch-y'.
Decorating that space below our TV is challenging. I like a simple and low decoration that is not very distracting. This spooky grouping seems to work perfectly.
