Madigan made… simple, glitter-covered, mini composition books.
You like glitter. I know.
But maybe you aren’t ready to put glitter on your furniture yet. I get it.
How about making a fun little notebook for your purse or school bag instead? Add a little sparkle to that mundane task list or important note!
I love making and decorating little composition notebooks from the dollar store. It is a cheap and low-risk craft. For one dollar you can have three sparkly different notebooks in the glitter of your choice! This would be a fun back-to-school craft for any glitter-loving student you know!

Glittery DIY Mini Notebook Idea
- 3 little notebooks
- Glitter in 3 shades
- Craft paint in complementary colors
- Mod Podge
- Paper plate
- Scrap paper
- Brass thumbtacks
- Wire cutters
- Craft glue
First, slip pieces of scrap paper between the notebook cover and the paper inside the book. This will protect that paper from getting paint on it.
Paint the exterior of your notebooks with paint…cover the front, back and spine. I used white paint, pink paint and a blend of the two colors for my third book. Allow that coats of paint to dry and brush on another layer, if needed.
Very carefully brush on a coat of Mod Podge and glitter on the front sides of the notebooks. To do this you will need to mix up your desired glitter (for each notebook) and Mod Podge on a paper plate.
Follow the line that is already there from the book’s spine to paint a straight line with the glue mixture. Then, liberally sprinkle on a coat of glitter over top of the decoupage.
Shake off any excess sparkle over a trash can. Once that is dry, flip the notebooks over and repeat the glitterification to the back of the notebooks.
Tip: I propped up my notebook covers so that as they dried, the inside papers did not stick to the cover.
After that decoupage dries, brush on 1-2 coats of more decoupage over top of the glitter to seal it up and prevent shedding. Allow that to dry.
If desired, add a gold detail to your notebook. You can cut the wires off the back of three thumbtacks using wire cutters. Then, use glue to adhere each one in the corner of a notebook. (I used a jewelry glue so that it would dry crystal clear… but a white craft glue could work, too.)
Once everything is dry you can enjoy your cute, functional and sparkly little notebook!
I love the combination of pink and gold… it feels fun, girly and a little sophisticated. Don’t you want one for your purse?
